We celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary in July by relaxing and enjoying each others company. We spent the day doing some of favorite things- visiting galleries, eating cheese, sipping wine, reliving history, even visiting a book store and choosing books that captivated our interests. Made for wonderful anniversary gifts. On a whim we decided to tour the gardens of the Plummer House in Rochester, MN since we were in the area. Wow! The couple that designed, built and eventually donated their home in the name of art, really seem to be after our own hearts. We walked the property in awe, amazed that the Plummers lived their dream and made their home, this incredible piece of real estate, an amazing work of art!

Autumn in the Midwest seems magical, it's our favorite time of the year! Nikki & Cole had all the fall vibes with their engagement session. It was a perfect day to get cozy with the crisp air and colored leaves floating from trees along the river, making for a romantic backdrop. Joe & Melina - Engagement

A rainy day didn't stop Joe from carrying out his planned proposal to the love of his life, Melina. Marry Me? had been written in the wet sand, accented by red rose petals and a heart with a dozen roses helped draw her attention. Just as they were about to set off on their boat ride down the Mississippi, the rain suddenly stopped, making for some memories that will forever keep their engagement story a great one.

The weather was absolutely perfect for their engagement session and this couple...they are really beautiful together! We are so excited for them and wish them every joy in their future together!

Sami's Senior Session

We have known Sami since she was a wee one (she's our cousin's daughter), and now in just a couple of weeks she will be starting her senior year at Mondovi High School. As nice and fun as she is beautiful, we had a blast taking her pictures!

There is something extra special about the relationship between a girl and her horse. We don't know who loves who more, Sami and Bella have that remarkable bond that keeps you saying "Awe"! They are such a sweet pair...and then there is Bam Bam, her German Shepherd who showed affections as well. You can't help but have magical photo opportunities with relationships like theirs!

Although she hasn't decided what she will pursue in college, it will definitely include playing softball. We wish you all the best in your senior year & always, Sami!

Deanna's Senior Session

It's hard to believe that school will be back in session in just a month! What an exciting time for the Class of 2017 as they prepare for their senior year and start planning their futures beyond high school. With a recent graduate of our own heading to college next month, we know this year will go by quickly...enjoy and make it the best it can be!

What a great time we had getting to know Deanna on a very warm July evening. She chose the perfect location to reflect her personality with interesting places and "props" everywhere we turned. She spoke of the importance of agriculture in her life as president of the FFA, an active 4H member and plans to study Ag Law! She just radiates positivity and excitement- we know that she will accomplish many more great things in her future!

Stained Glass

It has been a privilege to be a part of the design and building process of our church, Bethel Lutheran here in Arcadia. There are a few projects to finish up and this one will soon be installed. We have many talented, professional people in our community that we have had the pleasure of getting to know and work with on various projects. Craig Bacon of Bacon Stained Glass is one of those people that you know will get the job done right. His attention to detail and design is first class. We partnered with him, working on the design process and visited his studio a couple of times during production of the glass panels to see the progress. His studio is inspiring and he just may be the most organized artist we have met. We captured a few photos on our visit & look forward to seeing the new windows installed.

Jesus With The Children

In the spirit of Easter, we would like to share a special project that we have recently brought to completion. Measuring 8'x 8', this "Jesus With The Children" panel is our largest wood panel installation to date. The family of Todd & Karen Wanek generously sponsored this meaningful art piece for the entrance at Holy Family Education Center in our midwestern town of Arcadia, Wisconsin.

Upon initially engaging in the project, going over ideas and listening to their thoughts, a design concept was formed. They found it important for the children walking through the doors to their school everyday to be reminded, through unique imagery, about the importance of their faith based education. They also expressed the need for this to be something lasting and durable that the kids could touch without fear of it getting dirty or ruined. We have been excited to help bring their vision to reality and thank all those who helped us see this project through. Since we hadn't tackled anything this large in wood before, we had to cross some unchartered terrain and develop a process that worked. There was an amazing sense of satisfaction when the installation was complete.

The Wanek family has been a tremendous contributor to the community and supporter of the arts. We are very grateful for opportunities such as this to help beautify the community.

Living & working in a small community is something that we enjoy being a part of, yet we feel the importance of getting out and experiencing life other than our daily normal to enrich us as human beings and creatives. Reflecting back on our recent trip to New York City, with it's rich history and culture, we feel so inspired and motivated in our work. It felt like a dream to see some of the most famous paintings ever in the world, by the great masters at the Metropolitan & Museum of Modern Art. Walking the city streets, we saw new pictures and paintings to be made everywhere we looked and it made a lasting impression on us as we soaked it all in. We anticipate with excitement another trip to NYC in our future and are happy to share some images for those who haven't had the opportunity to go there, or hopefully stir up great memories for those that have.

Cole & Melanie - A Winter Engagement Session

It's a snow day here in Wisconsin, which seems the perfect time to share this winter engagement session! Cole & Melanie are one of those couples that you can't help but LOVE after seeing them together! True Leadership

It's exciting to create something truly unique for those special moments in life.

When Ashley Furniture asked us to design a plaque that would commemorate Ron Wanek for his Honorary Doctor of Business Administration from High Point University, we agreed and felt it a privilege. Knowing this portrait would represent the hard work, visionary leadership, and determination needed to develop the worlds largest furniture manufacturing company, we tried our best to reveal Ron's character. We were honored to present this plaque on behalf of Ashley Furniture in May, 2015.

Congratulations, Ron on all of your successes and thanks for all you do! You are a mentor to many!

Eric's Canoe on the St. Croix

When we found out brother Jim was coming to Wisconsin for a visit, we had to plan some kind of adventure. We decided to get out on the water, and scenic Saint Croix Falls was the perfect place to take the family this fall.

Eric at Eric's Canoe made launching this adventure easy. He had everything necessary for a trip down the river. It wasn't long before we were all set up and ready for paddling. We were lucky enough to have had Eric along on our voyage & he was an excellent guide. Finding faces in the rock formations, seeing ancient Indian paintings, and learning the area's history were a few highlights Eric shared from his experience on the river.

It was an incredible journey full of natural beauty & wonderful, priceless family memories.

It was 20 years ago this July that we were married on a hot and humid day at the scenic Lake Park in Winona, MN. Our photographs were taken by the rose gardens in front of a stunning stone home, which we had always admired. Still today, we drive by and reminisce of those times and our special spot.

You can imagine our excitement when Kendra & Taylor told us of their plans for a first look at Lake Park this summer. Everything came together for this beautiful bride and groom...gorgeous weather, a classic car for a fun prop, and to top it off- the owners of that very same home graciously allowed us onto their grounds, making for some unique portraits of their first moments together on their big day.

That timeless backdrop with hints of yesteryear seemed to be a perfect fit for this couple. We feel they have a rare, old fashioned, true love that will last a lifetime and become even more beautiful by the years.

Jesus With The Children

Stain is now being applied to a very special project- "Jesus With The Children" wood panel. We are working towards installing this final panel for the Holy Family Education Center this spring. Plenty of time has been spent on what would be considered our largest wood panel to date. It may be tedious work, yet it has been a great way to spend this time of Easter, reflecting on the real reason for the season.

Montana Travels

We are grateful to have had the opportunity for a visit to Montana in late August. The painterly colors and textures of the western landscape are truly inspiring and the structures that remain, as evidence of early settlers hopes and dreams, beg to be photographed before they disappear.

We were able to catch glimpses of wildlife in and around the parks. A buffalo plodding along the road next to us; adorned with a bit of greenery, a wolf peering off of a rocky ledge and a bear meandering the mountainside, were all exciting things to capture. What a privilege to witness life in the natural world.

Many people were enjoying recreational activities; hiking, fishing and rafting, even in the chilly weather. We couldn't help but think of all the things we would like to do in this majestic place if we had more time & how much fun our kids would have too.

We love seeing new places, yet always feel welcomed home to Wisconsin with our abundant water, lush greens and new life at every turn.

Spring is now stirring up feelings of travel and adventure once more. We have been hinting to our children of an upcoming trip. The mountains are calling to come visit again.

Katie + Max Are Married!

It was one of the warmer days in Wisconsin this summer for Katie and Max's wedding. It was an incredible day & they had a wonderful crowd of guests to help celebrate this couple that seems perfectly matched. Since they had been dating since early in high school, the speeches were very entertaining and all of the story tellers did an awesome job! With baseball being an important part of their lives since Max coaches, and Katie's a softball coach, they had fun details relating to the sport. The pavilion was beautifully decorated- like we've never seen before, both inside and out. Thanks for having us there to help tell your amazing wedding story! Rich + Maria Engaged

After putting their session off twice due to rainy weather, we got so lucky when it finally happened , the temperature was nice and the light was perfect! Never knowing what kind of weather the wedding day will bring, we really try extra hard to schedule in nice weather for the engagement shoot. And yes, this is a real couple, they are not models...what a great couple they make & they sure are beautiful people to be around. We love a good story about how couples meet and Rich and Maria have one that is truly unique! Rich's older brother married Maria's older sister- talk about fate! John + Deborah's Marriage Celebration

We enjoyed everything about John and Deborah's non traditional celebration of their marriage! They had planned this all the way from Massachusetts, without Deborah having been to the location, which belongs to a member of John's family. They had told us that it was a country setting and when we saw how ideal it was to photograph, we were very excited. Married a few days before (back home in MA), they thought it would be a great way to include his family by exchanging vows and celebrating at the end of a family reunion. There were so many special touches- Deborah made her bouquet from white roses found at the local grocery, their rings were passed around on a burlap pillow for family to offer their blessings, John's sister played the flute, vintage plates and linens were set out, there was a bit of comedy & even dogs were welcome. This couple just oozed with love for one another, which is very evident in their photographs. We felt lucky to be a part of their special event and wish John & Deborah all the blessings of love and happiness in their new life together.

Brenden & Bethany {Married!}

Brenden and Bethany had booked their wedding with us over 2 years ago. It is always amazing how fast the time goes even when it seems so far out in the beginning. We were so excited for their little guy- the cute little ring bearer. He was just beeming and showing off how handsome he looked in his mini tux. How wonderful for him to play such a big part of his parents special day! It ended up raining just after they finished greeting everyone, but we got lucky that it stopped briefly during the party so that we could get some really beautiful shots of them outside. We've heard it said that rain on a wedding day brings good luck to the bride and groom, so they should be a very lucky couple. Thanks for having us there to help tell your wedding day story & best wishes for a lifetime of happiness to your adorable family!

Abby & Greg {Engaged}

Engagement sessions really are some of our very favorites to photograph. We enjoy the chance to get to know our couples, having a fun, relaxed time before their big wedding day. When a couple chooses to express themselves with surroundings that tell their unique story, and have the willingness to go along with some of our crazy ideas, that is when the magic happens. Abby & Greg share a mutual love of nature and farming and invited us to photograph them near the cabin in the woods where Greg proposed & on his farm. Rain had been threatening, but we ended up having perfect weather & were able to capture the spring blossoms just before the rain took them down the next day. We were just in time for some morel mushroom hunting as well. In planning their shoot, Abby said that she would like to have beef cattle in some of their images, so we headed down a bumpy path to the valley where they were grazing. We were pleasantly surprised at their cooperation, with one nosy cow even getting up close and personal! We had such a great time on this adventure and are thrilled to share some of our favorite images as a sneak peek. This couple is truly special and we can't wait to document their wedding day in September!

Wedding Tree Guestbook Art

Recently, we have had requests for custom designed tree drawings- which guests stamp with their fingerprint, creating leaves. 3rd Grade Boat Trip

We had a fun, yet chilly day for the end of year field trip on the LaCrosse Queen with Breah's 3rd grade class! Our 9 year old had so much excitement building up to this day! We enjoyed a warmer half of the trip in the lower deck while eating our packed lunch and heard some great river history. After moving to the top deck, we all froze a bit. Being the resourceful girl our daughter is, mittens and hats were found in her backpack to share while a couple of classmates doubled up inside a dad's coat to stay warm. We spotted eagles and Breah took some landscape photos for the upcoming county fair. We topped it off with a trip to the gift shop where she scored a new hat and then spent some time in the gardens at the park with friends and took a trip to The Pearl for ice cream for the girls & coffee to warm up the moms.

Chad {High School Senior}

Congratulations to Chad on his graduation from Kasson, MN High School! We just have to share some of our favorite images from his senior session last fall which we shot in Winona on a beautiful sunny day. Mother's Day

Mother's Day...it was a perfect one! It started with Brooklynn baking a wonderful, chocolate frosted- marble cake & Breah gifting mom a cute plant that she seeded at school. We spent the day at our aunt & uncle's home in a park about 20 min. from our house. We took time to smell flowers (Bryndi didn't think some of them smelled so great;)! It was wonderful to spend time outside, enjoying the beauty of spring. There was ball playing, puddle wading, fishing & of course plenty of tasty food and visiting. What a blessing to celebrate with those who made it possible for us to become parents- including our amazing 97 year old grandma!

Good Shepherd Installed

With the installation of The Good Shepherd wood panel, for the Holy Family Education Center- here in Arcadia, there is now just one more panel to complete! From the first detailed drawing to getting the carving right, applying the finishing technique, building the framing, fitting the artwork, transporting and installing...it is always a sigh of relief and accomplishment after completing each individual piece. Being springtime & taking a family trip to a farm with little lambs, it was especially inspiring to think of the meaning behind The Good Shepherd. What a true honor it is to be a part of projects like this.

Date Night

This past Saturday was a special night for our 9 year old, Breah & her daddy. She was so excited about it all week, got her pretty clothes on and even let her big sister curl her hair. Daddy got some handsome clothes on too and took her to her schools father/daughter dance. Sweet times like this are the best!

Spring Visit to Flowing River Farm

We recently enjoyed a fun visit to Flowing River Farm, owned by our friends, the Roskos family. Seeing all of the new life was a wonderful way to welcome spring. The mothers seemed proud to show off their babies, some even looked as if they were grinning. Our daughter fell in love with a baby goat and has been begging for one since, but for now, we will just cherish the visits. We feel thankful to live in a place where our kids have the opportunity to experience country life. Happy Easter & Happy Spring to all!

Katie & Max {Engaged!}

Katie & Max were high school sweethearts and are now both elementary teachers. We think their classroom kids are pretty lucky since they both have such fun loving, great personalities! For his proposal, Max tucked Katie's ring inside a baseball and we were glad that they brought it with. It was so wonderful to photograph a couple with such genuine connection.
